Marine Trader 40 Europa Sedan - 1978/9 - **Now SOLD**

This 40ft trawler yacht offers plenty of living space, with a large main saloon and equally large galley to port, with two double cabins forward.

The attractive ‘Europa’ styling features a covered side & aft decks and a large flybridge area.

A refit was carried out in 2015/2016 to prepare this vessel for a single-handed Round Britain trip and subsequently, the current owner who bought the vessel through ourselves two and a half years ago has additionally spent on a further thorough internal refit that has involved many new domestic improvements throughout her accommodation spaces.

In early September 2021, a complete repaint of the superstructure & deck areas was completed using a durable two-pack marine paint and all teak has been taken back to bare wood and 5 coats of varnish applied. In July 2021, she was lifted for annual antifouling, replacement anodes and stern gear to be 'dressed'

Sadly, physical health constraints have overtaken our client and now the decision to sell again has been made. She represents a comfortable, capable, long-range cruising yacht or, equally as a 'well sorted' and comfortable live aboard yacht.

Accomodation

The accommodation features a roomy saloon, galley and helm position - all at deck level,

with a passageway forward leading to a double cabin on the port side with a heads

compartment to starboard incorporating a dedicated shower area. The forward cabin features a twin vee berth configuration and suitable storage to satisfy guests.

The layout would lend itself to being a comfortable live-aboard vessel.

Eberspacher warm air cabin heating - with a 7 day timer (the latter replaced in 2020) has

been supplemented with three oil-filled, electrically heated radiators each with a thermostat and timer for background, night-time heating.

Upon entering from the covered aft deck, a sliding door leads to:

Saloon: A 'U'-shaped seating area to port with space to starboard for additional seating if

desired. The seating and upholstery was new in December 2020 and surround a circular

pedestal table on telescopic support to be able to adjust its height. A single locker unit,

located to starboard houses a front-opening domestic refrigerator, mirrored by another locker in the aft corner with a front-opening freezer located within.

Galley: to port and to the forward end of the saloon affords good views of all going on around with ample work surfaces and stowage cupboards under & over. The work surfaces have been re-finished and a two oven, LPG cooker fitted. A stainless steel deep sink is provided, along with an extended hose spray tap. A microwave oven with grill is inset into eyeline cupboard.

All cupboards, with the exception of the peninsular unit were custom made in 2020 and are in varnished Teak finish.

Helm Position: to starboard with sliding door to side deck. Comprehensive array of engine and navigational instruments. Roomy navigational area for traditional navigation.

Steps down to passageway on the centreline lead forward to:

Master cabin: To port with a double berth incorporating multiple storage drawers within its base; a hanging locker and further locker with drawers. The mattress is new and of 'marine' specification.

Heads compartment: Located to starboard, opposite the master cabin, this has been re-tiled and is fitted with an electrically flushed toilet, stainless steel basin with pressurised hot & cold water supply and dedicated, tiled shower area that has been fitted with a custom made stainless steel shower tray and thermostatic shower controls.

Forward Cabin: Fitted with twin berths in a conventional 'V'-shaped layout with drawers and stowage under them and a hanging locker to starboard side aft. The mattresses in this cabin are also to marine specification and are new and these have not been used as yet.

The vessel is carpeted throughout and these are laid/fitted over hardwood parquet finishes.

New, bespoke 'Ratan' blinds are fitted throughout the main saloon, with the exception of the forward-facing windows. External blinds are provided for these windows.

History & Construction

GRP Hull & Deck, built by Chein Hwa Manufacturing Co, Taiwan in approx. 1978/9

After many years cruising the eastern seaboard of America including the great lakes and

intercoastal waterways this boat was based in Florida where she was bought by an English gentleman who shipped her to the UK in 2008.

On arrival in the UK in early 2008, she was re-engined with very low hour replacement

engines supplied by main dealers; Hendy Ford of Cosham, Hampshire.

Fully compliant with EU RCD standards - Post Construction Conformity report carried out in 2014 by HPI CE-Proof.

A comprehensive refit was commenced by the next owner in 2015/2016 to prepare this

vessel for a single-handed Round Britain trip, this refit included:

New bow and stern thrusters with separate battery banks and chargers for each

thruster.

New propeller shafts, shaft bearings, stern tubes and shaft seals.

Replace and rebuild the decks with new beams, glassed in and fitted with brown,

diamond patterned 'Treadmaster' panels.

A new hydraulic steering system.

A complete re-wiring of the whole vessel.

The overhaul & replacement of the seacocks where necessary.

New engine and navigational instrumentation.

New domestic appliances.

Following that owner's cruise, the vessel was purchased by the current owner (a retired Naval Architect and Marine Surveyor) through ourselves in 2019, since which more significant replacements and improvements (mostly internal, with a view to making the vessel more suited for long-term liveaboard use have been carried out.

Now, as stated above, most of the internal work has been completed. New protective hatch covers have been obtained and fitted, together with a new cover to protect the Flybridge's instrumentation. The flybridge decks have been upgraded using a rubberoid compound and finished with grey deck paint. The upper helm's varnished wooden wheel has been stripped and re-varnished. All external teak rails and fittings have been stripped back to bare wood and five coats of marine varnish applied.

NOTE: currently, there are no cushions to the flybridge seating.
