A Volvo Penta D1-30 (rated at 27hp) diesel engine drives a conventional shaft with a 3 bladed propeller replaces the original engine. Documentary evidence that the engine was professionally fitted by Poole Marine Services in May 2006 is held. 

 

At time of installation of the engine, opportunity was taken to fit a new stainless steel tank to replace the original mild steel one and to have a dripless lip seal fitted to the inboard end of the sterntube. 

 

Electrical Systems 

2 off 110 A/hr lead acid batteries (new in April 2021) are fitted and charged by the engine-driven alternator. A rotary selector switch isolates and selects either battery for engine cranking and/or domestic and service use; or indeed to link both batteries as a single combined battery bank. 

 

A 240V AC input socket input socket is fitted in the cockpit, with AC systems protected and selected by a RCD 'trip' sitch and individual circuit breakers. Two 13 Amp, square pin double gang sockets are fitted (one of which also has USB outlets). 

 

Internal lighting has all been fitted with LED replacements lamps, with the exception of one reading lamp within the main saloon (to be able to offer more subdued, 'warmly' lit ambience). Two coachroof-mounted running lamps have been fitted with LED bulbs, while the sternlamp remains fitted with a conventional filament bulb. 

The accommodation is of the Longbow's original layout, namely offering up to seven berths [in theory - if utilising the main saloon seating and table as a double berth; in practise, there are two generously-sized berths in a traditional 'V' berth formation in the forward cabin, two generous quarter berths aft and main saloon seating that can be utilised as a generous single to port side, within the main saloon. The galley is located to starboard, forward within the main saloon. 

 

Forward Cabin: Two berths, Light and ventilation is provided by a GRP hatch over in addition to the opening portlights to the sides of the coach roof. Deep-fiddled stowage shelves to either side, with under-berth lockers beneath the head ends of the berths A full-height locker is provided to starboard side. 

 

Heads Compartment: Located to port side, forward. A modern marine flushing toilet with replacement hoses and vented loops replaces the original 'Lavac' toilet unit. Moulded hand basin. Opening portlight. A full-height hanging locker is fitted opposite the heads compartment, to starboard side of a 'vestibule' area. 

 

Main Saloon: The seating here is laid out to Westerly's familiar L-shaped form and primarily to port side, about a double pedestal-mounted table fitted near to the centreline. Stowage abounds, with closed cave lockers beneath the side decks, Further lockers closed by the seat back cushions and then the under-berth lockers too. This Longbow's originally 'Formica'-finished main bulkhead has been re-finished using the same, matching vinyl as overhead and on the coachroof sides. The galley is located to the starboard side, with another seat immediately aft. All coach roof surfaces have been re-lined ensuring a light and welcoming interior. 

 

Galley: Originally formed to incorporate a moulded GRP sink, the original has been removed and replaced with a larger, supremely practical stainless sink with stainless surround. The moulded locker outboard of the sink has been shrouded with polystyrene insulation, so this locker supplements an under-berth coolbox, located beneath the seating return against the main bulkhead. The original cooker has been dispensed with and two simple, one-burner 'Bistro'-style camping burners used to avoid the dangers associated with large LPG canisters and the gas conveyancing systems that are necessary on board boats. However the original gas supply pipe and flexible tail are still in situ, should a buyer wish to fit a modern, 'marine' cooker. Crockery/cutlery stowage provision is beneath the side deck and in a cutlery drawer below the sink, while generous cooking utensil stowage is found behind locker doors beneath the sink and original cooker aperture.

In the cabin:

Danforth-style anchor, chain and warp, with the anchor being carried on the bow roller. 

Original stainless steel pulpit. 

Aluminium stanchions carry the double guard wires (the latter new in Oct. 2021). 

Double-railed stainless steel pushpits (replace the originals), with opening gateway to provide access to the transom-mounted swimming/boarding ladder. 

Replacement and laminated tiller. 

Single lever engine control re-positioned to port side of the cockpit to make for more convenient control than the original transversely-mounted lever. 

Midship mooring cleats to supplement those original at bow and stern. 

Lewmar 30 headsail sheet winches to replace the original, bottom-handled winches by Gibb. 

2 off original Gibb winches handle the halyards on the masst, ahead of the gooseneck. 

Fold down sprayhood (stored off the boat) and reported not to be in good condition, but the hoops would provide the economical support for a new sprayhood. 

Set of vinyl covered cockpit cushions. 

Hardwood cockpit grating. 

Manual bilge pump, operable from the cockpit. 

Miscellaneous boat hooks and deck scrubbers. 

Min. 5 inflatable fenders and 4 mooring ropes. 

Motor-sailing and 'at anchor' day-shapes. 

Rigged as a bermudan masthead sloop, with the original Proctor gold anodised-spars that have been supplemented with a behind-mast mainsail furling system and a headsail roller reefing system by Colnbrook fitted to the for'stay. The standing rigging has been replaced - documented as being in Sept. 2021- at a cost of £1450. 

 

As part of the fitting of the behind-mast mainsail reefing the sails clew outhaul and the system's reefing pennant were brough to the aft end of the coach roof to be handled from the cockpit, while the main and headsail halyards are winched and made off at the mast. 

 

A 'Supanova' LED tricolour light has been fitted at the masthead and a 'Blipper' mast-mounted radar reflector is fitted. 

 

SAILS 

In-mast reefing mainsail (new in Aug. 2021) by Batt Sails. 

Cross-cut roller reefing genoa of unknown age, with sacrificial UV protection strip.
